Re: What are you listening to?
Satellite Killed The Radio Car
NEW TECHNOLOGY KILLING TRADITIONAL RADIO
There’s a fascinating study from New York University that says AM/FM radio faces a grim future and a lot of it has to do with the technology coming into cars. It says that radio broadcasters have failed to connect with Generation Z, people born after 1995, who will account for 40% of all consumers by 2020. Teenagers and college students are turning away from radio and depending on YouTube, Spotify and Pandora to listen to new music. The study says that young people would have abandoned radio even sooner except for one thing: the average car today is more than 11 years old and they don’t have USB ports or internet connection. However, by the year 2020, 75% of all new cars will have digital connections. According to the BillBoard Hot 100 chart, streaming is now playing an important role in determining what music is played on the radio, rather than the other way around. The report says that AM/FM radio must adapt to a new digital world because, “If it doesn’t, radio risks becoming a thing of the past, like the wax cylinder or 78 RPM record – fondly remembered but no longer relevant to an audience that has moved on.”

If you watch the scene leading up to this, the singer is a doll and a genuinely talented soprano. The audio seems better during the recording scene than when the Stooges play the record of her voice.InlinePaul wrote:

Yep, quite a good looker. So is the one I posted from Julius Caesar (for her age).Rope-Pusher wrote:If you watch the scene leading up to this, the singer is a doll and a genuinely talented soprano. I wonder if the lady in the stooge video ever recorded serious opera. I would like to look her up if I knew her name. As I recall, in the skit, the Stooges got run out of the place, but their trick also got the daughter recognized by her father as a great singer.
However I am not so fond of sopranos as much as the deeper voiced ladies. Here is one of my favorite mezzos in an awesome display of vocal prowess:

Christine Cecilia McIntyre - It seems she acted in quite a few movies where the part called for comic acting and/or singing.InlinePaul wrote: I wonder if the lady in the stooge video ever recorded serious opera. Thanks. I don't see Christine in any classical CDs, but they do list a nice T-shirt of her:

Re: What are you listening to?
To the untrained ear, she sounds like someone who would have been more well-known for her opera arias than for throwing a pie. It would be interesting to hear why her career went the way it did.InlinePaul wrote:Thanks. I don't see Christine in any classical CDs, but they do list a nice T-shirt of her:

Kinda sorta reminds me of my cow-orker Howard who was educated as an aeronautical engineer but spent his career designing army tanks. He was very good at his job, but the model airplane crowd lauded him for his ability to design very light-weight planes that were still durable. I should have asked Howard how he ended up working at the Tank Command and not Boeing.

Re: What are you listening to?
That Tribute video you posted is great. I remember most of those scenes. Love when she slaps the daylights out of Shemp.
There is a bio on her at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0570731/bio? ... _ov_bio_sm. Bachelor of Music degree from Chicago Musical College and a trained opera singer. Looks like she was in a ton of other movies besides the Stooges: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0570731/
Presumably no recordings of her singing opera because she stuck with the acting career instead of pursuing opera. Given that, she was not well known or known at all among opera fans and so there would be no money in making a recording of her.

Re: What are you listening to?
It may be that she just didn't have "the juice" to become a major opera star. I know that in some endeavors, it seems to help a lot if you have a family legacy thing going on. It could be that the talent is genetic, or it could be that the political, social, and monetary backing is what gets you a leg-up on other hopefuls - think sports, acting, or automobile racing. It might also have been that talent from "the colonies" wasn't judged to be on parr with talent from the French, Germans, or Italians - most opera isn't sung in English, right? United Staters aren't known for being bilingual, let alone trilingual. It might be assumed that she would just be mouthing words without knowing the emotion behind them. You know, like some poser who drives an autosuck and says "Hey, I'm Shifting!"
I bet you were wondering how I was going to steer this toward the site's theme, weren't you?
